Is there an infamous abandoned hospital in Asia that is said to be haunted?
I remember getting a link to a gallery of some old hospital or asylum that is said to be haunted. I can't remember the link or the country though. I'm aware that there may be hundreds of abandoned hospitals in Asia which are said to be haunted; I'm interested in the more interesting ones though.

Maybe in an island called Corregidor Ruins in the Philippines or the abandoned hospital in Clark, Pampanga, or there is a haunted hotel in Baguio City!
2 :
Yes. Malinta Hospital, which is part of a long extensive tunnel maze under the mountain of Corregidor Island in the Philippines, was the structure where American and Filipino soldiers were being treated for gunshot wounds and other wounds caused by the Japanese war against the United States (Philippines was previously an American colony). Needless to say, thousands of soldiers died there. When the Malinta Tunnel was eventually opened, and made into a Light and Sound Show (with most of the things untouched), people say that they have an eerie feeling when they get there. The part of the tunnel which is a hospital was virtually cordoned off, being at the very distant part of the tunnel. People say they still hear screams, shrieks, and chains there - mostly Americans, and seeing spirits or ghosts is a fairly common occurrence. Howls also predominate at night which is why the Tunnel is closed just before the sun sets. It is one of the major hospitals in Asia during the World War II.
3 :
Old Changi Hospital – once a military hospital in Singapore before being closed down some years ago, this hospital is the most haunted spot in Asia’s most ghost-ridden city. The morgue is a particular hot spot for ghost sightings of the headless and footless kind. Recently, plans have been drawn out to convert the area into a spa resort.

Is it cheaper to book flights in Asia directly in the airlines' ticket offices or on their websites?
Especially for last minute tickets, is it better (and price-wise also) to book in the ticketing office of the airline itself (when you are already in Asia, for example the ticketing offices or booths in airports) or on their website?
Air Travel - 1 Answers

I live in Asia and you never know for sure, it wouldn't hurt to check the website before you buy at a ticket office. It depends on the airline, where you're going and the seat availability on the particular flight you want. For most of the budget airlines here, you can buy a last minute ticket for a pretty good fare, and some of the major airlines also will discount fares when they know the flight won't be full for last-minute travel. But like almost everywhere, advance purchase is usally the best way to go.

I noticed a lot of US movies especially big budget type are often released earlier in Asia. Why is it so? For example, Thor movie will be released on 28 April 2011 in one of the Asia countries, however in US, the movie will be released on 6 May 2011.

Ehhh... it's actually to counter pirating the movie. You see, if you show it in Asia first then there's a higher chance many will go to theatres to see it, but if you show it first in the US then illegal pirating individuals would've leaked the movie online and nobody needs to pay to see the movie any more. That's not to say pirating does not exist in the US, but some Asian countries do have loose copyright protection policies .....

How do i plan a trip to asia with several cities?

how do i plan a trip to asia with several cities?
we are planning a trip to asia, with several cities in mind. we have four weeks of vacation to plan and im having a hard time finding a site or information on how to plan it out. we are hoping to leave the second week in december and returning four weeks after that. we want to go to the philippines and thailand and want to see what the cost is going to be as well as all our options for tours and sightseeing.
Thailand - 5 Answers

1 :
use an online travel guide to asia
2 :
It will be better if you buy round trip ticket from a US city to a city in Asia (to save some money). Then get plane tickets from that city to wherever you wanna go. For example: I'm flying from Florida to Jakarta round trip. Then from Jakarta, I'll buy tickets to go to Singapore and Malaysia (Jkt-Sing-KL-Jkt).Back to Jakarta, buy ticket to Bali (Jkt-Bali). So if you want, you can buy a ticket to Phillipines, then fly to Thailand from there, with local airlines.
3 :
I have flown to the Philippines from Bangkok several times. Getting the plane ticket in Bangkok was no real problem at all. Purchase a round trip ticket to Bangkok, spend about a week or so there and then fly to Manila and visit there for a while, then fly back to Thailand for the rest of your trip. You could also fly to Manila first and then hit Thailand but I think it is easier and maybe cheaper to do Bangkok first. A flight on Thai air will might be around $300-$350 (depending on the season) for an economy ticket, discount airlines a little bit cheaper. The discount airlines may land at Clark Airport at Angeles City not Manila. Thailand is a little bit easier for getting plane tickets to other countries, lots of travel agencies with prices for flights to many places. In Bangkok you can easily get tours to many places. Go to a travel agency and check out their menu selection of tours. Lots of tours to choose from. Real easy! Hotels in Bangkok will be a little cheaper than Manila. Some travel agencies can set you up with plane tickets and hotel rooms too! Start with your plane tickets to Thailand. In Thailand buy your plane tickets to Manila (or if a discount airline to Clark) then set up your hotels. If you need recommendations for hotels you have to mention what your budget is in dollars or baht. Clark to Manila is around 2 or 3 hours by bus. Taxi is not too cheap, maybe $50 US. Bus is around $3 US. (Pay in PHP of course.) Travel agents in Manila can set you up with tours same as Bangkok, they will be a little more expensive than Thailand. Beer is cheaper in Manila if that is an consolation! You do need to get a passport if you don't have one presently. How many days you are allowed in Thailand or the Philippines depends on the passport you hold. PS Where are you flying from? Just noticed that you want to be in the Philippines in December. Caution - that month is one of the hardest times to get hotels in Manila. Many Filipinos return home from work in other countries and many hotels have full bookings! Thailand is busy this time too! This is high season! Good luck.
4 :
If you are looking for all in one spot. Probably but, it depends on what you are looking for. A good thai website for all things is: www.thaiwebsite.com here is the Philippine Tourism and convention site: http://www.dotpcvc.gov.ph/ A couple sites for planning a multi stop trip are: www.kayak.com www.sidestep.com It takes knowing where you want to go and then going from there. Good luck
5 :
Usually, people start north. From Hong Kong, then take a plane to Bangkok in thailand - then KualaLumpur in malaysia, then Singapore (via a causeway from malaysia, which takes about 20 minutes), then Jakarta in indonesia. For these trips, it is best for you to research extensively on the countries yourself, and plan the route properly

monsoons are a major factor in controlling the climate of s-e asia. agriculture in india is controlled by monsoons. in india we get 'south west monsoon winds' and 'north east monsoon winds' .s-e monsoons are the winds that bring major moisture to india. they blow during summers. it is the south east 'trade' winds which cross the equator and become s-w monsoons.(ferrel's law). picking up moisture from the arabian sea. n-e monsoons are experienced during winters. the give rain only in some part of india esp. coromandel coast. himalays are an important relief feature for s-e asia they block the cold 'siberian wind's to enter. thus preventing the region from becoming a cold desert. they also block the s-w monsoon winds and prevent them from going away. they aare forced to shed all the moisture in india . himalyan range acts as a barrier for these winds. mountains are also home for wildlife and rare plants. enjoy!!

i think asia has more cultures than europe because asia has an arab culture( lebanon), south east asian culture ( malaysian), east asian culture ( japanese) and south asian culture ( indian). So i reckon that you go to asia it is more exciting and lots to explore.
2 :
I think Asia. If you're not Asian that is!! Asian culture is TOTALLY different to any Western culture you can experience. The lifestyles in many Asian countries are different, traditions, holidays, even just daily things that a person from an Asian country does, which a Westerner wouldn't realise is a long standing tradition. However, all nationalities have their own culture which is never entirely the same as ours, so even if you don't want to go to Europe that much, it will still be an exciting and interesting experience.
3 :
as asia have more culture shock, while europe has almost the same culture and race, while in asia ,there has india, chinese, malay, arab and japanese.each has different kind of culture that you can explore.in asia you can luxury shopping in singapore, hong kong and tokyo and budget shopping in bangkok and jarkata, asia also has very good beaches you can relax such as bali and maldives.or religious place you can just explore like tibet, nepal, bhutan or india?even thought i love europe but in reality asia is a must explore place in the world!dun wait just go asia and live your whole life just to explore whole asia?
4 :
yes I agree. In my opinion, asia has a lot of culture compared to the continent of Europe, a wide variety of arts including dance, drawing (tattoos, paintings), wooden sculptures, weapons and traditional celebrations, and others. The place is also still natural, so many areas that are rarely or never even encroached upon humans because the terrain is difficult and hidden. But the most important in Asia is still a lot of forests and trees so that the air is fresh and the people are friendly society. http://www.shvoong.com/travel/adventure/2019607-save-makotek/

Because Asia was in isolationist mode - which is exactly why Polo and others had to trek TO asia to bring back so many remarkable things that were contributory (by no means exclusive) to AWAKENING Europe.

You can stay in rooms in Thailand from about 5 US dollars per night for a fan with shared bathroom. Depending how luxury you want it to be. A cheap aircon room would be about 15 dollars. Eating in Thailand can be very cheap, Fried rice would be about 2 dollars and drinks about 80 cents. If you travel by bus you can travel cheap. If you travelk to other countries such as Cambodia and Laos you have to buy a visa upon arrival whicht is about 35 for Laos and 20 for Cambodia.

What do you think was the European trade impact on Asia?
"Europe's trade impact on Asia: first impressions" From the very first, European interests and colonistys have always declared that trade with Asia brought considerably more benefits to Asia than negative impacts. Europeans argued that it brought commerce, jobs, and eventually education, hospitals and social improvement. So what do u think?

It is hard to generalize lumping everyone together as European. Early countries such as Portugal and Holland made fortunes off the spice trade, and had little regard for the natives. However the British invested heavily in the infrastructure of modern day India and Malaysia, this helped both succeed. While countries like Vietnam and Indonesia failed, because of the lack of investment and training by their colonial rulers.

It's nearer to LA than Bangkok by 1500miles and Kuala Lumpur by 2000+ miles, and from Taiwan you can travel from one Asian country to another using the services of Air Asia who are, not only cheap, but a great airline too. http://www.airasia.com/tw/en/home.html To get to Taiwan from LA you have a choice of Malaysia Airlines, Eva Air and China Airlines and in terms of price they are in the same order. Whatever you decide, have a great time as I'm sure you will.

1 :
The Lebanese & Syrians have a bit more EUROPEAN ancestry as well as ARAB (Middle-eastern) ancestry. North Africans tend to look the most "ETHNIC" ARAB. North AFRICAN Berbers of MOROCCO have some Sub-Saharan (black AFRICAN) ancestry.
2 :
The Asian Arabs generally have Arab and European blood lines while the North African Arabs have a lot of Black, Arab and European blood (mainly Spanish, Portuguese and French). Most Asian Arabs have light skin from the European blood and wavy black hair from the Arab blood. And most North African Arabs (and when I say North African Arabs I mean North African Arabs and not Berbers) have really light skin from the Arab and European blood and kinky frizzy hair from the black blood. I don't know where the Asian Arabs got their European blood from but they probably got it because they traveled to different regions to spread islam and when they went to Europe they must have mixed with the locals or maybe its because the Arab countries of Asia are really close to Europe and blood must have been exchanged from region to region. The reason North African Arabs have black blood in them is because of centuries and centuries of trade in which Arabs from North Africa went further down south to West and East Africa and took many slaves and they mixed with them and married them. North African Arabs get their European blood because of the moorish invasion of Spain in which thousands and thousands of Arab North Africans invaded Spain and other parts of Europe (mainly France, Sicily and Portugal) to spread Islam and then they must have mixed with the locals. Then North African Arabs get their Arab blood because the Arabs from Asia conquered North Africa in 7th Century to spread Islam and they mixed with the natives. I should know because I'm Algerian. And thats the difference between Asian Arabs and North African Arabs.

All of them are pre-dominantly Buddhist countries and buddhist cultures are prominent there eventhough , Vietnam is much more influenced by Chinese cultures. These are countries considered as mainland South East Asian countries. From this group, you may pick Cambodia as it is quite a laid back country unlike Thailand. You'll be to experience what a poor country in South East Asia is like. 2nd group is the Malay archipelago which consists of Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei. Malay and Islamic cultures are prominent in these countries eventhough there are big groups of non-Malays and non-Muslims there. The Malay language is widely spoken in all these countries. Overall, these 4 countries are more developed than those in mainland South East Asia ( except Thailand ). From this group, i would suggest that you pick Malaysia as the country is a multi cultural society , modern and has a lot of natural tourists sites to offer. 3rd group is the Chrisitan majority group. I put Philippines and East Timor under this group. Western cultures are prominent here. Philippines has strong Spanish culture while in East Timor , the Portuguese culture.is dominant. From this group, i suggest you choose Philippines as Philippines is a very vibrant society just like Spanish influenced societies whereas East Timor is a new country and is still a little isolated.

Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia

As an experienced traveller, chesney c gets it right. The Philippines is somewhat tamer than the rest of Asia in terms of culture, and you will experience considerably lesser culture shock here tha in elsewhere in Asia. It is also home to the Latins of Asia. The beaches and resorts here are also world-class - try Palawan, Boracay, and Caramoan Peninsula, which have been filmed by French travel channels. They won't go wrong, right?!
7 :
I suggest Manila & Cebu Philippines if you want join new trend settler people. Old fashioner, go to rest of southeast asia.

What country would cheaper to fly into if I want to travel throughout Asia?

What country would cheaper to fly into if I want to travel throughout Asia?
I am planning to leave the U.S around October. November to travel around Asia but I am not quite sure which country would be cheaper to fly into as a start off point. Anywhere in Asia would be fine. Any ideas, suggestions and websites I can look into.

Hong Kong.

I would recommend either Singapore or Malaysia and they are kind of the central hub to most Asian countries. Also, Air Asia airlines and Tiger Airways offer heavily discounted flight tickets around Asia, so these two countries are definitely great starting points. Have a look at the links below for more info.
3 :
Malaysia & Singapore both of this country is Asia truly Asia. But Singapore has become a little bit to modernize so you can't really fell the Asian sensation and surrounding but Malaysia they are mix with modern and old. Plus if you wan to go around Asia Malaysia have this low cost airlines call Air Asia now fly to UK & Australia with reasonable price. FOR MORE INFO: MALAYSIA-http://www.tourism.gov.my/ SINGAPORE-http://www.visitsingapore.com/publish/stbportal/en/index.html P/S:Don't worry both of this countries are safe to travel.
4 :
Actually it depends on what you want to get during your trip in Asia. The cheapest place to get ticket as a hub for Asia will be Bangkok. But if you book online, anywhere in Asia will be fine but Malaysia will be the best as Air Asia flies to many destination in Asia as well to Australia and UK, so its better for you to fly to Malaysia and fly to rest of the Asia. As you are flying from US, this is rather difficult if you want take an non-stop flight, as flights with 1 stop-over can be cheaper. Fly into Malaysia by Malaysia Airline will be good, as well as North-West Airline or United Airline to Singapore or Malaysia is also great. Those are cheaper options and if not Delta or American Airline can be considered, depending on where you are taking your flight in US, as price defers place to place and may differ greatly even thru different airports near the same area (eg. Newark & JFK, both serve NYC).

Is it a good idea to go backpacking through Asia during this swine flu outbreak?
I have been planning a year-long backpacking trip through East and Southeast Asia but now that there is a swine flu outbreak, with predictions that in the next 2 years 2 billion people will probably be infected, I am wondering if it is such a good idea. I really want to do this though and have been waiting for a long, long time to do it. What do others think? Thoughts? Comments? Advice?

Definitely Singapore. Singapore is clean, safe, modern, and advance Chinese, Malay, and Indian people live in Singapore. So, you can experience their food and culture. Also, English is spoken there, so you'll definitely have no communication problems. Singapore was known as "Instant Asia" in the past and you'll understand why.
2 :
Manila Philippines - the best of all cultures.
3 :
There is no such thing as a single Asian culture; There is no such thing as a single Asian world view; It is very naive of you to think that there is. If you finished your holiday in an Asian country thinking that you've had some profound insight into "The Asian World View", you'd be stupid.

How will a United States economic collapse affect Asia?

How will a United States economic collapse affect Asia?
Apparently, from what I've heard the United States is headed for an economic collapse. What I want to know is how will an Economic Collapse affect Asia? According to Peter Schiff, Asian currency will rise as the US dollar falls. China is looking to be a world economic leader and would lead Asia. Also billionaire Jim Rogers has moved to Singapore and said that China is going to grow. Do any of you feel that any of this is true? What I want to know is how will Asia do if the United States collapses economically?

if you think they are poor countries wait until Americans stop buying Tvs and cars from Asia! then watch it fall wow!
2 :
If the US fails we will throw another atom bomb on Asia to take them down with us!
3 :
China probably has plans to survive with out our dollar, their country is run by VERY intelligent people. I don't know exactly how, but it looks like they started emphasizing tourism.
4 :
Your source may be correct, but the Asina market may too collapse. As of yet, the US purchases somewhere in the neighborhood of 50% of Asian-produced goods. If our economy collapses, thats 50% gone!!! Thats a sure collapse. However, it is unlikely that our ecoomy will collapse completely.
5 :
We've been in a depression since the second term of what's his name. They've been telling us what we want to hear, but the proof is in the pudding. I've had a lay-off, and a door closing bankruptcy at another company, all in '07. If the U.S. isn't on top, someone will be, and China and India are ready to be major players in world economics.
6 :
We are one of China's biggest customers. If we fail, they fail. Same thing with these oil rich countries. They wouldn't amount to a pimple on our *ss if we didn't buy their stuff. Let us not forget how much money we owe China. They hold a lot of our government securites. If we fail, we might not pay them back. Wow, won't that hurt.
7 :
First of all, the US economy is not going to collapse. It's not even clear we're in a recession. The great depression was exacerbated by a fledgling fed that did exactly the opposite of what they should have done. That is, they took liquidity out of the system rather than adding it. Regarding your question, a collapse of the largest economy in the world (we are four, some think five times larger than China in GDP) would send the entire world into a depression. Since we would presumably default on our treasury bonds, of which China and Japan hold the most in the world, countries who hold our bonds as foreign reserves would experience a crisis of liquidity. Also, their export markets would dry up overnight and there would be a run on their banks. It is difficult to judge, but Asian countries would probably be worse off than the US

What is the difference between Indians from South Asia and Native Americans?

What is the difference between Indians from South Asia and Native Americans?
I'm sorry I know alot of people have asked this question on here. I've seen them. But I still don't get it? Where did Native Americans come from? Isn't being an indian from south asia and american indian the same thing? I'm confused lol can someone please explain it properly? Thanks Where did Native americans originally come from?
History - 8 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
The term 'Indian' when applied to the Native Americans is a misnomer. ie- When the North American was discovered by Europeans, they mistakenly thought that it was actually the country India that they had arrived in (the world had nnot been accurately mapped yet). The name stuck, but is an imposed Western term and not correct to use.
2 :
Well, Christopher Columbus wanted to sail to India in south asia by sailing west. When he reach central america, he thought he was in India and called the Native americans Indians. So the word stuck. Native Americans and Indians from India are different people. Native Americans were already on america when europeans discovered america.
3 :
The Native American originated amongst a particular group of Siberians that crossed the Land Mass bridge between Siberian (Russia) and North America between 60,000 to 100,000 years ago, following the migratory animals they hunted. Thus all Native Americans, from Hopi to Aztec, from Apache to Mayan, are all directly descended from Siberian asiatics. Genetic testing has confirmed this.
4 :
When Christopher Columbus set sail in 1492, his purpose for sailing was to find a trade route from Spain to the East (Columbus was Portuguese, mind you, but was hired by King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain). At the time, Ferdinand and Isabella had hoped to lay claim to the precious resources of the far East; spices, tea, and metals, such as gold, in particular. Anyway, for as great and explorer as Columbus is credited as being, he took the complete wrong route and ended up in America. He THOUGHT he had made it to the East, India in particular, and thus called the people he met INDIANS. So, to call a Native American an Indian is a complete misnomer. Yes, they have dark skin and dark hair, thus sharing two distinctive features with the people of South Asia. However, in no way are they Indians. It was Columbus' mistake and it took 500 years before people actually started to correct it. The only Indians in the world are those who descend from India. The Native Americans are indigenous to the United States. That means that their roots can be traced back to the US. Of course ALL human existence originated in Africa and we spread out as the continents drifted apart and during the ice age when the oceans froze over. To that end, it is believed that the Native Americans were from Eastern Russia and made it into the North American continent via Alaska and Canada. Specifically, Native Americans prefer to be referred to by their tribal affiliations, so as Navajo, or Cherokee, or Cree, for example, and not just as Native Americans. So, the difference between Indians of South Asia and Native Americans is that Native Americans are not Indians at all, but the South Asians from India are. It is Columbus who was wrong in the first place and the name stuck for hundreds of years. Hope that helps.
5 :
They came from Siberia in northeastern Asia, across a 'land bridge' that is no longer there, because of rising sea levels (from Ice melting, this was during the ice age) from Siberia to Alaska. They migrated all the way to South America in a few thousand years. They were Asian, no doubt much like people of Siberia, today, although there may be other groups there now. Columbus and other explorers thought they had reached "India" or the "Indies" in Asia. So the name Columbus gave the people of the New World, 'Indians', stuck until very recently when American Indians began being called "Native Americans". There is virtually no connection between people of India and American Indians, but there is some between East Asians, in Siberia, parts of China, Japan, etc.
6 :
We were already here in the western hemisphere before the "out of Africa" diaspora was supposed to have happened. Archeologists have found proof of our living on these shores for more than 50,000 yrs. India is a country in Asia and the citizens are called Indians. They are not our people though, nor are they our relatives. The white people called us Indians, we tend to identify ourselves by our tribal identities. Although, we have had the name NDN for so long, that many of us still use it, and accept it. I use it and accept it, just like my parents and grand parents did. I'm NDN, North hill Yokuts, and Southern Miwok, and my ancestors have been here since long before the last ice age.
7 :
people from india are not the same as people from the americas. indigenous people of the americas did not migrate from anywhere. dna and archaeological evidence put natives in the americas for over 50,000 years. that is longer than there have been caucasians in europe. its time to stop the bering strait THEORY crap. its been proved wrong many times over even though uneducated people continue to repeat it as fact.

How much would it cost to travel around Asia and Europe?
So, in a couple years I'm planning on travelling all through Asia, and Europe. I'm gonna start saving now, because I want to go in 4 years. I will be staying in hostels most likely, BUT in some places (Rome, and Paris) I do have family friends that are there so they'll let me be with them for a couple days. How much will the total be (An estimate). Thanks so much!

Well it really depends..the flight is going to cost the most to Asia..since the exchange rate tends to be favorable to westerners there..time spent there will be cheap, housing ,food , site etc. Europe however flights are cheap but everything else is expensive esp western europe during hte summer. Look up flight prices and hostel prices then add about 20 Euro per day for food and another 15 for sites.

Singapore is a really nice place in Asia, probably better than most American cities, I would suggest it, although it is lacking a little on the "sites to see" list. Shanghai and Hong Kong are coll cities to see as well.
3 :
well, 1st of all. i think that the PHILIPPINES is the best place. theres soo much CULTURE as u asked for and plus most people speak english. dont stay in MANILA, the capital. thats crap. go to BAGUIO city (thats 6 hours north). the people are honest and warm. Especially visit cebu and the southern area called Visayas. there you can swim with the whale sharks. see the smallest primate. (forgot what its called) anyway, yeah goo check it out. :) that's what i think. HOPE u have a great vacation.
4 :
Thailand is a good country to visit i went there and i liked it. Its really cheap. People are really friendly the only downside is everyone is going to always ask for money and there alway going to try to sell you something but other than that you would like thailand one more thing i went to Pataya
5 :
Safe, rich in culture, and a lot to see? Well, my first thought is China. Mainly because it's extremely rich in culture AND there is a LOT to see! Safety may be of slight concern, but it's not such a big deal, so I think China would be the best choice for you! Japan is safe, and has a lot to see. If you go to Kyoto and Nara, you will find a lot of the traditional culture and sights. Southeast Asia is also good. Places like Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam are very rich in culture, and they offer a lot for tourists. Safety may be more of a concern in Southeast Asia, but most people who use common sense (and perhaps research a little about the country they are visiting) have no problems. Someone suggested Singapore, but Singapore is not "rich in culture", because it is a city. Cities always tend to be more modern and less traditional, so "culture" is difficult to find. Also, there are not really that many sights to see.
6 :
americans? go to the Philippines and you will see alot of americans there. anyway, safe: everywhere in the world can have a safe place if you yourself would take care, rich in culture: i would say china and alot to see: what are you looking for? beaches?, historical places? (like japanese and spanish heritage ), shopping malls, bars.. etc.. well, go to the Philippines theres alot you can see there and one more thing, as american, you should go to a country that the people there almost can speak english: Philippines! the only fluent english speaker in asia.

8 :
Visit the Philippines, It's less expensive. People speak English, you'll have no problem with communication.

Is it cheaper to buy a sailboats in asia?

Is it cheaper to buy a sailboats in asia?
I was thinking about buying a small yacht in the next year and sailing across the pacific with a friend. By default i was just planning to buy it in california and sail west. While tossing the idea around my friend suggested that instead we fly to somewhere in asia and buy a boat there and sail it back. His thinking being that if they are made over there half the price must be transporting it to america! If we bought it in america and sail it over there, then decided we dont know what to do with it and want to sell it we may not be able to get back even 1/3rd of our investment (supply and demand). But if we go there first and sail back we might even be able to sell it for more than we paid! Any ideas, tips or thigns we should look out for?

Its the same about clothes, yes - its cheaper, but sometimes the quality is not good.
2 :
I think you may have a chance of finding something at a good price. There a lot of Boat wood comes from overseas; i.e. Teak, should you want some pretty wood inside and out. I wish I knew more to tell you. One though is years ago a Boat Builder named "Cheoy Lee" in Hong Kong made some excellent boats. I not sure they still build the Cheoy Lee sailboats or if they even located in Hong Kong. Last I searched around I think they in Florida now building big ships. But, I would assume the Boat Labor in Hong Kong still there and should be someone building good boats.
3 :
Have you ever bought a sailboat before? Actually have you done much sailing before? Are you looking at new or used boat? Cheaper yes, riskier very much riskier. Buying sight unseen, or with no other options can be a big roll of the dice. Do you have the funds to fix it or to fly back if you don't like it? Or if your buying new, what happens if the boat takes 3 or 4 months longer to make than expected? Thought about what if you get there and there is nothing you like? If you sail over there, and want to sell. The best way to sell is by Yachtworld.com or similar brokerages. You will be selling to other "Americans" that have more money usually than the locals.
4 :
They say the cheapest place to buy a used boat is in the Canary Islands, because many have started off from Africa and that is as far as their mates would sail. So many boats are sold or abandoned there. Cheoy Lee is a good boat, too. Have any boat surveyed before buying it.

What were the professional cameras in Asia during the mid 70's?
I was looking through some old pictures and found a class picture of my dad dating back to '74. The picture was kind of shiny and the blacks were very detailed (like hair). My goal was to make prints like it. So my question is, what did professional photographers in Asia (if different in U.S) used during the mid 70's? What kind of photographic paper was commonly used?
Photography - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
The cameras were either 35 mm SLR's. medium format TLR's or SLR's or even view cameras. The paper used was fiber based, graded paper. Later in the 1970's RC and polycontrast paper became popular. While fiber base and RC paper is still available, graded paper is much harder to find.
2 :
It was likely a medium format camera like the Mamiya RB67 or Hasselblad. Possibly a view camera.

How long will it take for Asia to be a global power like America and Europe?

How long will it take for Asia to be a global power like America and Europe?
How many years will it take for the whole of Asia to be a global power like what Europe did in the Age of Discovery and Colonization Era wherein almost all of its nations inside the continent are rich, famous, progressive nations, civilized people and a major power?
Current Events - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :

europe is not a power, and never had been. Great Britain is the name you are looking for,America and Great Britain. Asians countries have big populations, but not much else
2 :
The criteria you use for global power -the age of Discovery and the era of Colonization are particular periods that I don't believe can be repeated by any nation let alone Asia. Those were eras that were dominated by an elite which saw many living in real poverty. Today the Americans seem to be preoccupied with projecting "power" militarily and the Chinese with the might of millions tied to overproduction. Our current models of growth are seriously faulty as they are not based on sustainable strategies. Visit Asia and see for yourself places like Shanghai which from the air look like New York and see the Western styles of housing and education in Singapore. China, India and Japan economically speaking already dwarf the West but their power is benign. So if you think that this dominance is similar to that of the West you would be wrong. Asia sees itself as just one part of a multi-polar world and not in terms of brute power. To answer your question- Asia (which is a lot of countries who are not united as one entity, like Europe) will never be a global power like America or Europe.

2 :
The accepted boundaries of Europe and Asia came about for cultural reasons, not essentially geographic. It began with the ancient Greeks who recognised a boundary between their cultures and others in Asia Minor. As the geography of the region became more understood, the arbitrary division of Europe and Asia extended along cultural lines, between societies viewed as 'Asian' or 'European'. Some of the boundaries follow geographic features such as mountain ranges and lakes, but that's because it also it marked tribal boundaries. The accepted boundaries were established before the advent of modern geology and the understanding of plate tectonics.
