France stayed Catholic but fought a bloody civil war against the powerful Huguenots (don't quote me but I think they practiced Calvanism?) in the 1500 and 1600s. Vasco de Gama was the first European to sail around Cape Good hope and enter the Indian Ocean and sailed all the way to India in 1497 Marco Polo did go to India by boat, but not from Europe. He traveled by land through northern India on his way to China. And then Sailed around India on his way back before getting of in Iran and walking back to Europe. No one had sailed to Asia, from Europe, until De Gama

Hi, I know it has become very popular to trade through eBay. I read awhile ago a series of articles regarding that and they looked quite promising. (sadly those articles are in Hebrew ;-) ) But I think most of your technical questions can be answered on the EBay faq's (like how to senf, how the get the money etc.). and as to what would people buy... that question is surprisngly not so relevant... I suggest you read about a phenomena called the "long tail" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_tail). good luck, Ami

Set up a website and take payment through www.paypal.com I would recommend you start with eBay and sell items on that before you tackle the online world. Good luck

How much should I expect to spend backpacking through Southeast Asia?

How much should I expect to spend backpacking through Southeast Asia?
I plan on quitting my job in January to travel through SE Asia, starting in Singapore and moving north. I've heard you can do $25/day but it's barebones, and that $35/day is much more comfortable. Any input?

That budget sounds reasonable to me but it would be worth being specific about the countries you are visiting. For instance, $15-20 is plenty for a budget traveller in Laos while you'd probably want $25-30 per day in Thailand and more in Singapore. It also depends on the level of comfort you require but it sounds like you are looking for a cheap holiday rather than a first class one. The Lonely Planet website has suggested daily budgets for most countries of the world and I'd recommend taking a look at what they have to say. I've always found their guidelines bang-on when I've gone travelling and at least it gives you a starting point. Personally, I'd probably budget $40 per day knowing that some days will cost more and most will cost less. This would leave me with a buffer in case I found something amazing I wanted to do or I got unexpectedly stranded for a few extra days. I hope this helps. Have a fantastic trip!
