The term 'Indian' when applied to the Native Americans is a misnomer. ie- When the North American was discovered by Europeans, they mistakenly thought that it was actually the country India that they had arrived in (the world had nnot been accurately mapped yet). The name stuck, but is an imposed Western term and not correct to use.

Well, Christopher Columbus wanted to sail to India in south asia by sailing west. When he reach central america, he thought he was in India and called the Native americans Indians. So the word stuck. Native Americans and Indians from India are different people. Native Americans were already on america when europeans discovered america.
3 :
The Native American originated amongst a particular group of Siberians that crossed the Land Mass bridge between Siberian (Russia) and North America between 60,000 to 100,000 years ago, following the migratory animals they hunted. Thus all Native Americans, from Hopi to Aztec, from Apache to Mayan, are all directly descended from Siberian asiatics. Genetic testing has confirmed this.

When Christopher Columbus set sail in 1492, his purpose for sailing was to find a trade route from Spain to the East (Columbus was Portuguese, mind you, but was hired by King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain). At the time, Ferdinand and Isabella had hoped to lay claim to the precious resources of the far East; spices, tea, and metals, such as gold, in particular. Anyway, for as great and explorer as Columbus is credited as being, he took the complete wrong route and ended up in America. He THOUGHT he had made it to the East, India in particular, and thus called the people he met INDIANS. So, to call a Native American an Indian is a complete misnomer. Yes, they have dark skin and dark hair, thus sharing two distinctive features with the people of South Asia. However, in no way are they Indians. It was Columbus' mistake and it took 500 years before people actually started to correct it. The only Indians in the world are those who descend from India. The Native Americans are indigenous to the United States. That means that their roots can be traced back to the US. Of course ALL human existence originated in Africa and we spread out as the continents drifted apart and during the ice age when the oceans froze over. To that end, it is believed that the Native Americans were from Eastern Russia and made it into the North American continent via Alaska and Canada. Specifically, Native Americans prefer to be referred to by their tribal affiliations, so as Navajo, or Cherokee, or Cree, for example, and not just as Native Americans. So, the difference between Indians of South Asia and Native Americans is that Native Americans are not Indians at all, but the South Asians from India are. It is Columbus who was wrong in the first place and the name stuck for hundreds of years. Hope that helps.

They came from Siberia in northeastern Asia, across a 'land bridge' that is no longer there, because of rising sea levels (from Ice melting, this was during the ice age) from Siberia to Alaska. They migrated all the way to South America in a few thousand years. They were Asian, no doubt much like people of Siberia, today, although there may be other groups there now. Columbus and other explorers thought they had reached "India" or the "Indies" in Asia. So the name Columbus gave the people of the New World, 'Indians', stuck until very recently when American Indians began being called "Native Americans". There is virtually no connection between people of India and American Indians, but there is some between East Asians, in Siberia, parts of China, Japan, etc.

We were already here in the western hemisphere before the "out of Africa" diaspora was supposed to have happened. Archeologists have found proof of our living on these shores for more than 50,000 yrs. India is a country in Asia and the citizens are called Indians. They are not our people though, nor are they our relatives. The white people called us Indians, we tend to identify ourselves by our tribal identities. Although, we have had the name NDN for so long, that many of us still use it, and accept it. I use it and accept it, just like my parents and grand parents did. I'm NDN, North hill Yokuts, and Southern Miwok, and my ancestors have been here since long before the last ice age.

people from india are not the same as people from the americas. indigenous people of the americas did not migrate from anywhere. dna and archaeological evidence put natives in the americas for over 50,000 years. that is longer than there have been caucasians in europe. its time to stop the bering strait THEORY crap. its been proved wrong many times over even though uneducated people continue to repeat it as fact.

How much would it cost to travel around Asia and Europe?
So, in a couple years I'm planning on travelling all through Asia, and Europe. I'm gonna start saving now, because I want to go in 4 years. I will be staying in hostels most likely, BUT in some places (Rome, and Paris) I do have family friends that are there so they'll let me be with them for a couple days. How much will the total be (An estimate). Thanks so much!

Well it really depends..the flight is going to cost the most to Asia..since the exchange rate tends to be favorable to westerners there..time spent there will be cheap, housing ,food , site etc. Europe however flights are cheap but everything else is expensive esp western europe during hte summer. Look up flight prices and hostel prices then add about 20 Euro per day for food and another 15 for sites.

I think Contact any tour operator who gives full information about this tour package.

What is the best country to visit in Asia for Americans?

What is the best country to visit in Asia for Americans?

Go to Fiji Islands...That all answers your quest. It's in South Pacific though.
2 :
Singapore is a really nice place in Asia, probably better than most American cities, I would suggest it, although it is lacking a little on the "sites to see" list. Shanghai and Hong Kong are coll cities to see as well.
3 :
well, 1st of all. i think that the PHILIPPINES is the best place. theres soo much CULTURE as u asked for and plus most people speak english. dont stay in MANILA, the capital. thats crap. go to BAGUIO city (thats 6 hours north). the people are honest and warm. Especially visit cebu and the southern area called Visayas. there you can swim with the whale sharks. see the smallest primate. (forgot what its called) anyway, yeah goo check it out. :) that's what i think. HOPE u have a great vacation.
4 :
Thailand is a good country to visit i went there and i liked it. Its really cheap. People are really friendly the only downside is everyone is going to always ask for money and there alway going to try to sell you something but other than that you would like thailand one more thing i went to Pataya

Safe, rich in culture, and a lot to see? Well, my first thought is China. Mainly because it's extremely rich in culture AND there is a LOT to see! Safety may be of slight concern, but it's not such a big deal, so I think China would be the best choice for you! Japan is safe, and has a lot to see. If you go to Kyoto and Nara, you will find a lot of the traditional culture and sights. Southeast Asia is also good. Places like Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam are very rich in culture, and they offer a lot for tourists. Safety may be more of a concern in Southeast Asia, but most people who use common sense (and perhaps research a little about the country they are visiting) have no problems. Someone suggested Singapore, but Singapore is not "rich in culture", because it is a city. Cities always tend to be more modern and less traditional, so "culture" is difficult to find. Also, there are not really that many sights to see.

americans? go to the Philippines and you will see alot of americans there. anyway, safe: everywhere in the world can have a safe place if you yourself would take care, rich in culture: i would say china and alot to see: what are you looking for? beaches?, historical places? (like japanese and spanish heritage ), shopping malls, bars.. etc.. well, go to the Philippines theres alot you can see there and one more thing, as american, you should go to a country that the people there almost can speak english: Philippines! the only fluent english speaker in asia.

India is the best country for those who love biodiversity and climatic diversities. It is relatively a safe country provided you are honest, a strong believer of 'Live and Let Live Culture' and denounce extremism and fundamentalism of any sort.

Is it cheaper to buy a sailboats in asia?

Is it cheaper to buy a sailboats in asia?
I was thinking about buying a small yacht in the next year and sailing across the pacific with a friend. By default i was just planning to buy it in california and sail west. While tossing the idea around my friend suggested that instead we fly to somewhere in asia and buy a boat there and sail it back. His thinking being that if they are made over there half the price must be transporting it to america! If we bought it in america and sail it over there, then decided we dont know what to do with it and want to sell it we may not be able to get back even 1/3rd of our investment (supply and demand). But if we go there first and sail back we might even be able to sell it for more than we paid! Any ideas, tips or thigns we should look out for?

Its the same about clothes, yes - its cheaper, but sometimes the quality is not good.

I think you may have a chance of finding something at a good price. There a lot of Boat wood comes from overseas; i.e. Teak, should you want some pretty wood inside and out. I wish I knew more to tell you. One though is years ago a Boat Builder named "Cheoy Lee" in Hong Kong made some excellent boats. I not sure they still build the Cheoy Lee sailboats or if they even located in Hong Kong. Last I searched around I think they in Florida now building big ships. But, I would assume the Boat Labor in Hong Kong still there and should be someone building good boats.
3 :
Have you ever bought a sailboat before? Actually have you done much sailing before? Are you looking at new or used boat? Cheaper yes, riskier very much riskier. Buying sight unseen, or with no other options can be a big roll of the dice. Do you have the funds to fix it or to fly back if you don't like it? Or if your buying new, what happens if the boat takes 3 or 4 months longer to make than expected? Thought about what if you get there and there is nothing you like? If you sail over there, and want to sell. The best way to sell is by Yachtworld.com or similar brokerages. You will be selling to other "Americans" that have more money usually than the locals.
4 :
They say the cheapest place to buy a used boat is in the Canary Islands, because many have started off from Africa and that is as far as their mates would sail. So many boats are sold or abandoned there. Cheoy Lee is a good boat, too. Have any boat surveyed before buying it.
