Why should or should not citizens of the United States be concerned about deforestation in Southeast Asia? If they should be, what would be the proper ways they might show such concern?

Citizens of the WORLD should be concerned about deforestation of any forest of the world, because shlt rolls down hill sideways and all around the ball. We should not be to concerned if properly managed, but we do not know squat anyhow and mankind will obliterate just about everything including plants, but plants will be the most prolific when man totally or just about totally obliterates itself. Face THE FACTS people, look around, you know it is almost inevitable, even with all the advances in science. The Chinese middle class is about to unfold exponentially. Imagine the strain on resources that will impose alone. and just about every country is going to be a 2 and a quarter world nation and eventually if not wiped out sooner 4th world nations.

I didn't even know that South East Asia was frozen. I think it should be defrosted as soon as possible.

Just a few figures to make you understand the problem, Lilliana: There are more people alive today than it has ever been on earth. We are now 6.7 billions and since man has existed on earth, there has not been that many. If we divide all the earth's resources; food, water, etc. per inhabitant, then we have an average individual quota. If we were all to live with e.g. a Nigerian individual quota, we could be 18 billions on earth. If we are all to live with an American quota, there could be only 1.5 billions people on earth. Scary, isn't it? Our problems for the future are global. Deforestation - anywhere - reduces the size of the rain forest, changes the climate, increases the carbon dioxide and reduce the most precious resource; drinking water. What kills more people on earth than aids or cancer, is ... water; non-potable water.
