What colors are best for creating a logo for a company that intends to do business in Asia and America? In other words, what colors are acceptable and liked in both cultures and what colors should be avoided?

Any dark colors for Asia, and light colors for US. Avoid Black in both.

Asians expecially chinese believe there is luck in gold and red whereby american market really has not absolute preference. Check on the competition and see what they are using. Anyhow a good logo colour although important will not be as important as what kind of product value you are offering. Perceived value is more important that actual value in marketing in the start-up stage. Good luck
