Thailand. Look up info in Krabi area. Just an idea

My personal preference would be: 1) Thailand 2) Philippines 3) Malaysia In that order It's not so much that Thailand has the best environment for DMs, but that compared to other SE Asian countries it is one of the better developed dive industries. You also have the option of diving West or East Coasts in Thailand, depending on the monsoon season. You also have a steady stream of tourists to keep the pipeline going. Malaysia is not as famous for their sites (and its a bit more expensive than Thailand). In my opinion getting to dive sites in the Philippines can be difficult because you have to either ferry or fly from island to island. This limits your clientele base. Japan and NZ are fantastic, but you might find the limited income of a DM to be tough going in those two countries. Your money will go further in Thailand. Shoot me a personal e-mail at gy_chiu at yahoo if you consider Thailand. I can recommend a contact who might be able to give you the info on a few dive operators.

A foreigner needs an employment "Z" visa to work in any Asian country. You must be sponsored for the visa by your employer and meet government mandated criteria. Find out about the income tax rules in advance. Some countries will have significantly steeper tax rates than you are used to. Also find out rules regarding re-patriation of assets to your home country. This isn't a problem from developed countries, like Japan and Australia, but is legally prohibited from many developing nations (Philippines, Vietnam, etc.) Good luck.
